Good news! I FINALLY finished my newest leaflet, JA 34 Fireside Slippers!
These are a fun knit for both men and women, with the pattern written in four sizes for length, and the option to make the foot for any of the sizes a little narrower or a little wider. The cuff is folded down to enclose elastic cording tightened or loosened with a drawstring stopper. This gives a sporty or casual look to the slipper, although, to tell you the truth, with the whole slipper knit in a rib variant stitch pattern, the leg stays up pretty nicely on its own. I finished the bottoms with some leather heel/toe patches to extend the life of the slipper soles and to give them a little traction, but this is entirely optional. The Fireside Slippers were test knit in Briggs and Little Atlantic chunky, in the shade “Red Heather”, and I am pleased to announce that I have brought in several new colors just in time for the pattern’s release. Two skeins will make any size, which makes for a nice, quick, warm, stylish, AND affordable knitted gift for Christmas. The Briggs and Little Atlantic and the pattern are available for purchase separately, or together in a kit (with or without leather sole patches)…your choice. Prices:
Briggs and Little Atlantic: $5.50/skein (113 g/123 m)…100% wool
Kit (Yarn and pattern only, all sizes): $16.75 Remember, it’s still 2007, and Briggs and Little is still celebrating their 150th Anniversary with their Anniversary Twist yarn deal. So, for any 2 skeins of Briggs and Little yarn purchased at regular price, you are eligible to purchase 1 skein of B&L Anniversary Twist (dark blue/light blue ragg aran weight 100% wool) for ONLY $1.50! This will count for separate skein purchases OR Fireside Slipper Kit purchases (as each kit contains 2 skeins Atlantic). Please let me know when you order if you’d like to take advantage of this offer while it lasts!
BRIGGS AND LITTLE “ATLANTIC” The photos will be back to me by the end of the day, so the pattern is available to ship on Thursday…in plenty of time to whip up a couple of pairs (or more) for Christmas! Oh, because I know people will ask…I do not have the elastic cording and drawstring stoppers in my shop. Please try your local fabric store…they should have some available, and they are quite inexpensive. Please call (1-866-690-WOOL) or email to request any more info or to order! I will have the leaflet, kit, and yarn info up on all of their pertinent pages here on my website in the next day or two, but it’s all here in the shop and ready to go. Happy Knitting! |

Wednesday, November 7, 2007 Thanks to everyone who took advantage of my sale pricing last week! The No-Tax Day also went extremely well, in spite of the fact that Mother Nature decided to dump a load of snow just in time for the event…thank goodness for phone orders! But yes, it seems to be official…the snow and wet are here for the season. Perfect accompaniments to knitting needles, crochet hooks, and roaring fires! Here’s what I’ve been working on: The promised photo of “Thor” in Garnstudio’s Eskimo (see my August 23rd entry for a shadecard…I’ve added a couple of shades since then, so email or call to ask about those):
(By the way, that’s my card hanging off the earflap, not some strange feature to the hat.) I had just enough of the rust with one skein, and then a skein each of charcoal and cream. I also threw in a bit of the mossy green…a stripe at the base and one at the tip, and then mixed in with the pom pom and earflap ties. The fourth color is purely optional…you could easily make do by substituting one of the other colors in for it. What a great, quick knit! If you click on the link above, you’ll also notice that there is a second chart option for the hat. Additionally, I give instructions for either a short tip or a long tip (shown on the hat I just did) for either version, and you can knit the hat either flat on two needles, or in the round on double points. How’s that for versatility? I also finished up a chunky jacket in Lana Gatto’s “Labrador” for my nephew for Christmas:
I used a Knitting Pure and Simple leaflet I stock in the shop…the jacket is knit top-down, so there’s no sewing to finish up (except for the sides of the pocket linings inside the jacket). The pattern shows the prototype with a zippered front, but since I ain’t so good at sewing in zippers, I opted to add a couple rows of garter stitch on either front for button bands, and gave it buttons. I think I might have to make this jacket again, soon! Let me know if you’re interested in either the yarn or the pattern. The new Woollen Earth leaflet I’m SUPPOSED to be working on has been waylaid by easy Christmas knitting projects, but I’ve promised myself to stay focused and finish up this week. I’ve got to get the samples knit so we can work on getting a photo! Soon, soon… OH, I almost forgot. The Holiday 2007 issue of Knit Simple has been out for a week or so; have a look inside at my men’s slip and garter stitch saddle-shouldered pullover:
