Not a whole heckuvalot of knitting done this last week that I could show here today, so let me present a couple of pairs of sewn kids' shorts:
Whipped up for a certain couple of kiddies visiting from Germany, who I'm sure will get good use out of them while they're here and enjoying some hot weather. I'm also ACTUALLY. SEWING. MYSELF. A. SHIRT! I know. What's with that? Should be done today, I hope, and ready for weekend wear. No really exciting yarn shop news. Sent off a couple of design submissions this week and worked a few rows on a couple of different projects, but not enough to make for interesting conversation. Looking forward to a hot weekend with some garden and knitting time ... hope the same for you! |

Thursday, May 22, 2008 And in a burst of productivity, another Woollen Earth leaflet, hot off the press! JA37 MALAGA Shoulder Shawl:
Do you have somewhere special you're going this summer? A wedding? A family reunion? Or thinking ahead to the holiday season? The Malaga Shoulder Shawl is just perfect when all you need is "a little something"! Knit in a DK 100% raw silk on 5.5 mm needles, the shawl is a quick lace fix, and a nice weight to wear. Finished dimensions (blocked) are approx. 13" wide by 58" long, and requires 4 skeins of the new silk yarn I now have in stock, Fiddlesticks Knitting Silk Sensation: FIDDLESTICKS KNITTING SILK SENSATION DK 100% Raw Silk, Made in Italy Tension: 21 sts and 30 rows = 4" on 4.0 mm needles 50 g / 115 m
This yarn is absolutely a pleasure to use, and very luxurious for lace. As a special promotion, just until the end of May (and while what I have in stock lasts), I'm slashing off $1.00/skein from the regular price of $10 (CDN)!! A couple of alternate shots of the shawl:
Pattern features easy to use charts and clear instructions, and comes with a 4x6 color photo in an archival quality page protector. Just call toll-free 1-866-690-WOOL or email me a note (or use my secure order form ) if you'd like to order the pattern or the "kit" (pattern and 4 skeins of the Silk Sensation)! Unfortunately, the actual shawl sample will be gone from the shop for a few weeks as it makes its "official" debut at TNNA (The National Needlework Association) in Columbus, Ohio the first week of June. It'll be back soon after, and available for viewing ... in the meantime, you're being given advance notice on the pattern's availability! I'll be getting all the new pattern and yarn info up on the other appropriate pages on the website, here, in the next day or two. In the meantime, if you have any further questions, just call or email. In other news, and mentioned because I'm receiving lots of enquiring emails, we have put our house up for sale ... but not the business! Our housing needs have changed, but the yarn shop goes where I go, never fear! So this explains the "House For Sale" signs on my yarn shop signs and the link on my website ... and if you know of anyone who's looking for a great mountaintop retreat (or hobby farm) with a magnificent view of Fraser Lake and 16.1 acres, send `em our way! Happy Knitting, all! Thursday, May 15, 2008 Ha, Ha! I bet you thought this design would never materialize! JA 36 CINNAMON:
A pullover in 7 sizes (finished bust 32.5" to 49.25") with OPTIONAL crocheted beaded edging. Features reverse stockinette stripes, set-in sleeves, and a loose-ish mock turtleneck. Knit in Ecoknit Organic Cotton DK on a 4.5 mm needle for some extra drape. Shown in, what else, shade "Cinnamon". A great sweater to go with pretty much everything! Pattern will be physically ready in a day or so ... just waiting for the reprints to come back, but I'm taking preorders now. I'll also be updating the Patterns page on my website soon ... probably after the long weekend. A couple of other shots:
Speaking of the Victoria Day long weekend, The Woollen Earth will be closed Saturday, May 17 to Tuesday, May 20 for the holiday ... reopening regular hours on Wednesday. In the meantime, you can always email me to order, and I'll send out first thing Wednesday! Have a great weekend! P.S. Another new pattern next week ... stay tuned! Thursday, May 8, 2008 Lookie what I found yesterday when hanging up this year's first load of line laundry:
I've never seen these in all the ten years we've been here! Drab, drab, dirty, dirty everywhere, and these, a burst of color and beauty, in stark relief. Beeyouteefull. (P.S. We won't mention the fact that I had to quickly remove the laundry two hours after hanging it up due to some corn snow falling.) By the way, if you're not on my email list and you haven't physically visited the shop, you likely don't know that all my cottons and cotton blends are 15% off all this week (that is, until closing at 5:00 pm PST on Saturday, May 10). This includes the Ecoknit Organic Cotton DK and the Primavera Cotton shown in Monday's post ... amongst other things ... want more details?? Send me a note! Monday, May 05, 2008 It finally seems to be here! The snow is melting, the ice on the lake is finally breaking up, and the most sure sign ... a couple of mosquitoes. Oh! The first hummingbird of the year just hit the feeder ... which is sadly empty ... put that on my list for the day. I just realized I didn't post at all last week, so let me make up for it by showing a finished object:
Summer tee, in yarn and color requested. Quite a cute little t-shirt when worn, and was really quick to knit. I just let it sit around here in blocked pieces for quite some time till I had a chance to do the sewing. It'll be in the yarn shop on display for a few weeks until a birthday, at which time it'll be matched with a blue cord skirt and pair of shorts. I used Primavera cotton, and it took 7 skeins of #9989 to do the size 9/10. Sirdar pattern # 2072 (just left off the ties):
NOVA "PRIMAVERA" Chunky 50% Cotton, 38% Acrylic, 12% Viscose Tension: 16 sts on 5.5 mm needles = 4" (or 15 sts on 6.0 mm) Approx. 47.5 metres/50 g Price: $4.99/skein
Shade numbers from top to bottom: #9989, 9955, 9878, 9970, 9946, 9840, 9420 What else has been going on `round here? Lots of knitting ... my Grundl sock from last time is done (not the pair, just the first sock) ... and all the kits save 1 are sold. Definitely was a great deal. I'm also half done my project for TNNA ... I'm going to try to focus just on it this coming week so I can get it blocked, a photo taken, and it in the mail by end of this week or beginning of the following week. The way things are progressing outside, we should have some good pattern photo ops coming up soon. Ahhhh ... the sun is shining, and my cappuccino and knitting needles await ... Ciao! |
