Friday, May 18, 2007 Just in, all shades shown of Online’s Beach socks…45% cotton, 40% wool, and 15% nylon. One 100g skein makes a pair of socks, free pattern included. The best part? Reg. price is only $13.99, but even better…this yarn is on sale until June 2 for only $11.99/skein!!!! Definitely cause to stock up for your summer knitting! Just to let you know, though, that the colors are much more subdued in real life than shown on the poster…still fun, just a little more “sandy”. Call (toll-free North America 1-866-690-WOOL) or email today to order!
Just a reminder, The Woollen Earth is closed May 19-22 for the Victoria Day Weekend…see you Wednesday! Thursday, May 17, 2007 I have been knitting, and knitting, and knitting, and knitting…for days, and am still not even to the armholes on the first piece of a sweater that has to be in the mail next Friday…blocked, seamed, and packaged. Think I’m going to make it? I don’t know if my right elbow will. The Summer 2007 issue of Interweave Knits is now in stock…let me know if you’d like a copy! Lots of great projects and a little tweaking on the new layout from the last issue that makes it a little easier to read. The pink summer sweater is all blocked…time to do neckband and some seaming tonight…hopefully I’ll have pictures to post of it by early next week. The Woollen Earth will be closed May 19-22 for the Victoria Day Long Weekend…have a great one, and don’t let too many mosquitoes getcha! Friday, May 11, 2007 Ages since I last posted, but really nothing exciting has been going on. Pushed out a bunch of submissions, heard back on a couple (so am expecting more yarn), have been putting rows in on little summer sweaters and a sweater for a new leaflet which I’ve been trying to complete for a couple of months now (and looks like it’ll still be a bit till it’s done)…and now the weather’s nice enough to get out and work in the yard. We’ve got lots of clean up work to do for all the damage that was done to the trees during “the great snow storm of ought six” (last October), plus regular yard maintenance. We’re also trying to be a little more serious about gardening this year, and have already made one raised bed (which looks fabulous), with plans to make another this weekend. As for the shop…I decided to send back the partial order of Norwegian yarn that had been sitting here since March…it just didn’t seem like the rest was ever going to come in…and when it finally did, would I be able to restock it? Not a wise investment. I’m keeping my eyes peeled for a good substitute. In the meantime, I’ve ordered a big schwack of a cotton blend self-striping sock yarn for spring and summer sock knitting…should be here soon. Very fun colors. Hopefully I’ll get a little summer sweater finished within the week and will have pictures to post. Although I’m using a pattern that I have had since before I even owned a yarn shop (when was that again??) and don’t carry, I have some similar patterns in the shop, so I’ll post those with the picture. I’m using Mandarin Petit, which I have used before, and it’s working up very beautifully. It wears wonderfully (I knit a little summer sweater out of it last year and it still looks brand new, despite the wear and tear it’s seen)…a great tester of a yarn for sweaters for kids. Thought I’d better post to prove I’m still alive, but maybe next time I’ll have something good to show for it! Tuesday, May 01, 2007 Yes, it’s FINALLY beginning to warm up around here, although the ice hasn’t yet sunk on the lake, and we still have patches of snow all over the place. But now it’s May, and I’ve had it. It’s spring, dang it! (Right?) Not that I’ve had time to pine away for warmer weather. I’ve hardly had a chance to look anywhere else but at my works-in-progress. Between shop hours, GST reports, income tax, and 3 different magazine jobs (three sweaters from design idea to full completion and in the mail to their respective destinations) in April, let’s just say that the weather wasn’t on my to-do list, so it didn’t get noticed. Here are some (very small) sneak peeks at the last two magazine gigs: ![]()
Doesn’t mean much, does it? Let me tell you that I’m definitely ready for a break. Actually, I’ve been taking one for three days, now, and may just be beginning to regain my sanity. Back to the grindstone today, though. Instructions still to be typed for the project in the last photo, and proposals still to do up for a few submissions. Everyone and their dog has decided that the end of May would be a good time for deadlines for design submissions. It sure would be nice if they were a little more staggered out. I’ve had to face the fact that I simply can’t do all of it and expect to have any sort of a life (I already sacrificed that for the whole month of April)…so I’ll be picking and choosing the recipients for the submissions I do get done, and hoping I “chose wise, Grasshopper”. I would like to get back to a leaflet I’m fairly close to finishing for the Woollen Earth lineup, so I plan to do some design proposals this week and then drop any expectations for the rest and get back to other designing and “real” life. I’ve had a few new things arrive at the shop. I briefly mentioned the new shipment of the Austermann STEP sock yarn (with aloe and jojoba built right into the yarn): it’s going fast, so send me a note or call me for available shades. I’ve started a new pair in a shade of blues and greys to replace the sample socks I had for everyone to feel in the shop (this is definitely a “touchy-feely” yarn)…as I gave that pair away to my brother-in-law for his birthday. As a nice accompaniment to the sock yarn (and for other projects), I’ve gotten more bamboo double points, this time also adding some 6” sets in 2.75 mm, 3.0 mm, and 3.75 mm. These shorter ones are nice for smaller projects (like socks), and they come in a set of 5, just like the longer ones. What else? Oh, as mentioned previously, a whack of Lett Lopi for knitting clogs or my pattern, Wink Felted Elf Slippers. I also brought in a Lopi book I’ve never carried before…must have come out a couple of years ago, around the time of the Accessories book (also in stock…hats, mitts, socks), but for some reason I never saw it. I’m still waffling about stocking a Norwegian pure wool in a light DK weight. I’m having trouble GETTING stock, and just don’t know whether to continue trying to bother or just to give up and send what I have so far back to the distributor. I’ll definitely post it if I get something to post. Oh, by the way, the road to the shop is nice and dry…no mucky mud to throw you around for now, so hope to see you here. Otherwise, I’m happy to send to you…just let me know! |
