Whew! How's the rollercoaster ride to the holidays going for you? It's definitely had its ups and downs here for us. Finally today I sent the last of the far-flung parcels (Express Post, of course, due to my lack of organization and speed). Deep sigh of relief. There have definitely NOT been any great masses of knitting projects pouring off my needles ... and those that have been created have certainly not been spectacular blog-fodder knitting, but them's the breaks, folks. Socks: ![]() Finished at long last. Started probably in the spring. I should check back, because I probably posted somewhere around when I started them. These gave me no end of teeth-clenching, grin-and-bear-it joy when the second skein for the second sock proceeded to be full of knots—one of which, in the middle of the foot, when moved past, proved to have been joined at the color repeat GOING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, striping back the way I'd already knit. Grrr. Had to dig out the first skein, ATTEMPT to match up the stripes and keep going. Only to find it had a nice knot or two hiding in its final recesses. The end result is that there's no way the two socks ended on the same color. But they're done. Embroidered tea towel: ![]() Finished at 12:30 the night (or should I say morning) before the parcel was sent. I sincerely hope SOME people don't read this blog, or I might have just spoiled a Christmas surprise. There've been a few other things, but I haven't been taking pictures like I should, and some aren't exactly done yet. Not to mention I just stepped away from the computer for five seconds and caught my oldest reading my writing. Mental note: do not post anything about kidlet presents. Speaking of the kidlets, they've been crafting, too! Needlepoint (no photo), embroidery (no photo), and some yummy, honey-smelling beeswax candles: ![]() I've (not so) delicately hinted that they know where my hair dryer is and wouldn't those extra sheets of beeswax make some beautiful candles for Mama? Think that'll work? Lots of baking has been done, too ... although I haven't tackled tarts and breads, yet. And this weekend (our festive weekend of tree-trimming and birthday celebrating), someone I know will be making-do with a cheesecake that calls for a cup of dark rum and FIVE packages of cream cheese. Happy (hic) Birthday! I hope to check in at least once before Christmas Day, but intentions and reality being what they are, you never know. Happy Holidays! |
